Balavina Over-the-Sink Colander – Expandable Fine Mesh Strainer with Non-Slip Rubber Grip (13.4–21.3")

Balavina's Over the Sink Colander is an adjustable, fine-mesh stainless-steel strainer that locks over most kitchen sinks to rinse, drain, and rest produce and pasta hands-free.

This over-the-sink strainer combines a rigid stainless-steel body with a flexible non-slip rubber grip handle so you can extend the basket to fit sinks from compact to farmhouse depth. The fine mesh keeps small food particles contained while letting water flow away quickly, and the stand legs let the colander double as a countertop fruit or vegetable holder when not in use. Dishwasher-safe construction and heat resistance make it practical for everyday cooking tasks, from rinsing berries to draining hot pasta.

How does the expandable handle adapt to different sink sizes?

The colander includes a telescoping rubber-grip handle that extends from 13.4 inches up to 21.3 inches so it can hook securely over a wide range of sink widths. The rubberized surface prevents slipping and protects sink edges from scratches.

• Adjustable length fits compact and double-basin sinks
• Non-slip rubber prevents movement while draining
• Protective contact reduces risk of scratching stainless or enameled sinks

What foods and tasks is this strainer best suited for?

The fine mesh is designed to trap small bits like rice and quinoa while allowing water to drain quickly, making it ideal for rinsing fruits, vegetables, and draining pasta. Heat-resistant metal construction also handles hot liquids, so you can drain cooked pasta or pour off boiling water safely.

• Rinsing berries, grapes, and leafy greens without losing pieces
• Draining cooked pasta, noodles, and grains
• Straining soups, sauces, and blanching water when needed

How sturdy and durable is the Balavina sink strainer?

Constructed from premium stainless steel, the basket resists deformation and holds shape during regular use. Built-in support legs allow the strainer to rest on counters as a fruit bowl or drying rack when not perched over the sink.

• Heavy-gauge stainless steel resists bending and corrosion
• Stable stand legs convert the strainer into countertop storage
• Dishwasher-safe finish simplifies cleaning and maintenance

Is the colander easy to clean and maintain?

The smooth metal surface and fine mesh finish are compatible with dishwashers and hand-washing, so residual food rinses away quickly. The rubber grip handle is durable and designed to stay secure without trapping grime in hard-to-reach places.

• Dishwasher-safe design for quick cleanup
• Fine mesh resists food buildup and rinses clean
• Rubberized handle cleans easily with a sponge or damp cloth

It’s particularly useful for those who want hands-free draining, a way to rinse delicate produce without losing pieces, or a dual-purpose item that also functions as countertop storage. Avoid placing excessive heavy loads in the basket—it's optimized for produce, pasta, grains, and typical kitchen draining tasks rather than bearing heavy pots or bulky cookware.
