D'Addario XS Phosphor Bronze Coated Acoustic Guitar Strings 12-53 — Ultra-Thin Coating, NY Steel Core

D'Addario XS Phosphor Bronze Coated Acoustic Guitar Strings (12-53) are an extended-life, warm-toned set with a thin corrosion-resistant coating and NY steel core for superior tuning stability.

These strings combine traditional phosphor bronze wrap wire with D'Addario's ultra-thin XS coating and a high-strength NY Steel core to deliver the familiar acoustic warmth players expect, while dramatically prolonging usable life. Built with Fusion Twist manufacturing and precision drawing at D'Addario's New York facility, the 12-53 gauge set targets players who want fuller low-end response and longer-lasting tone without sacrificing feel or playability.

How do these coated strings sound compared with uncoated phosphor bronze?

The XS coating preserves the natural warmth and balance of phosphor bronze while slowing the tonal degradation that usually comes with time. You’ll hear familiar mids and shimmering highs, with a slightly smoother attack due to the ultra-thin film.

• Warm, balanced tone consistent with phosphor bronze wrap wire
• Smoother initial feel and slightly softened attack from the XS coating
• Longer-lasting brightness and sustain versus uncoated sets

How long will the coating extend string life and tuning stability?

The XS coating is engineered to resist corrosion, fraying, and coating peel, which lets these strings keep their tone much longer than standard acoustic strings. Combined with a NY Steel core and Fusion Twist construction, they also resist breakage and hold pitch through temperature and humidity changes better than many uncoated alternatives.

• Ultra-thin XS film resists finger oils and environmental corrosion
• Greater break strength from NY Steel core and Fusion Twist
• Improved tuning stability for longer, more consistent playing sessions

Will these 12-53 strings suit my guitar and playing style?

A 12-53 gauge set produces a beefier low end and increased tension, making it ideal for players who want fuller rhythm tone or who tune down occasionally. They are well suited to steel-string acoustics built for medium to heavy gauge strings, and players who use flatpicking, strumming, or vigorous fingerstyle will appreciate the added presence.

• 12-53 gauge provides stronger low-frequency response and clarity
• Best for Dreadnoughts, Jumbos, and other robust-bodied acoustics
• Great for strummers, flatpickers, and players seeking more projection

What other practical benefits do these strings offer?

Beyond tone and longevity, XS Phosphor Bronze strings come packaged in a recyclable resealable VCI bag that includes a code to register for Players Circle reward points. The manufacturing process emphasizes consistent quality control, so each set meets D'Addario's specifications for tension, intonation, and finish.

• Recyclable, resealable packaging with a Players Circle registration code
• Manufactured in the USA to precise tolerances for consistency
• No fraying, peeling, or tonal dampening thanks to the ultra-thin coating

Who is this for: The D'Addario XS Phosphor Bronze 12-53 set is geared toward acoustic players who want the traditional warmth of phosphor bronze plus markedly longer usable life and better tuning stability. It fits guitarists who demand fuller low end—such as rhythm players and recording musicians—plus any performer who prefers fewer string changes and a reliably consistent tone night after night.
