DEWALT 20V MAX 22" Cordless Hedge Trimmer Bare Tool (DCHT821B) — 22" Hooked-Tooth Blade, Compact 78-Min Runtime

The DEWALT 20V MAX 22" Cordless Hedge Trimmer (DCHT821B) is a compact, battery-powered hedge trimmer with a 22-inch laser-cut hooked-tooth blade built for clean cuts and up to 78 minutes of runtime with compatible batteries.

This bare-tool hedge trimmer from DEWALT is designed for homeowners and pros who want cordless convenience without sacrificing cutting performance. It pairs a high-output motor with a 22-inch hooked-tooth blade to handle routine shaping and light branch work, while a more compact build and friction clutch protect the transmission and improve maneuverability. Because batteries are sold separately, you can match it with the DEWALT 20V MAX battery you already own for a familiar runtime and charge cycle.

How much cutting time can I expect from the DEWALT 20V MAX 22" trimmer?

Run time depends on the battery capacity you pair with the tool, but DEWALT rates the trimmer for up to 78 minutes of runtime with compatible 20V MAX batteries under typical conditions. That amount is sufficient for medium yards and multiple hedgerow sections when using higher-capacity batteries.

• Up to 78 minutes runtime with appropriate 20V MAX battery (battery sold separately)
• Compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX battery family for flexible capacity choices
• Battery choice determines continuous cutting power and job length

What kind of cutting performance and blade design does it offer?

The tool uses a laser-cut, 22-inch hooked-tooth blade that delivers clean, fast cuts and slices through branches up to about 3/4 inch thick. The hooked teeth help control material while trimming, producing neater edges on hedges and shrubs without frequent snagging.

• 22-inch hooked-tooth, laser-cut blade for precise trimming
• Capable of cutting branches up to 3/4-inch diameter
• Blade geometry optimized for smooth trimming and reduced pull

What features protect the tool and reduce user fatigue during use?

DEWALT designed the trimmer with a friction clutch to protect the transmission from damage when it encounters obstacles, and a compact body that is 39% shorter than comparable models to enhance balance and reach. The combination helps limit strain on your arms and reduces the risk of mechanical damage from accidental jams.

• Friction clutch for transmission protection against binding and impacts
• 39% more compact design for improved maneuverability and less arm fatigue
• Lightweight, balanced profile for extended trimming sessions

Is the DCHT821B a complete kit or a bare tool, and what does that mean for buyers?

The DCHT821B is sold as a bare tool only, which means it includes the trimmer without a battery or charger. This is ideal if you already own compatible DEWALT 20V MAX batteries and chargers, allowing you to save money and standardize on one battery platform across tools.

• Bare tool packaging: trimmer only, battery and charger not included
• Works with DEWALT 20V MAX batteries for parts commonality
• Good option for contractors or homeowners with existing DEWALT battery inventory
