ecobee SmartSensor 2-Pack - Wireless Temperature & Occupancy Sensors, 18.3 m Range

ecobee SmartSensor 2-Pack detects room occupancy and local temperature, sending wireless updates to your ecobee thermostat so it can prioritize comfort where it matters most.

These compact wireless sensors use infrared motion detection and a temperature sensor to tell your ecobee smart thermostat which rooms are occupied and what their local temperature is. By sharing that data from up to 60 feet away through walls and floors, SmartSensor helps your thermostat make smarter decisions about where and when to heat or cool — improving comfort in bedrooms, living rooms, and other frequently used spaces without manual adjustments.

How will SmartSensor improve comfort in specific rooms?

SmartSensor reports the temperature where it’s placed, allowing the thermostat to focus on the rooms you actually use. This eliminates hot or cold spots by prompting automatic adjustments based on where people are, rather than a single central reading.

• Reports local temperature so the thermostat can prioritize occupied rooms.
• Works through walls and floors up to 60 ft to cover more areas.
• Place in bedrooms to reduce nighttime temperature swings.

What setup and placement options are available?

Installation is quick and tool-free: mount with the included magnetic satin-steel stand or attach the self-adhesive bracket to a wall. For reliable motion detection, install at least 5 ft above the floor and within the 60 ft communication range to your ecobee thermostat.

• Magnetic stand for tabletop or shelf placement.
• Self-adhesive wall bracket for permanent mounting.
• Minimum 5 ft height recommended for best occupancy sensing.

Can SmartSensor help reduce energy waste?

By identifying unoccupied rooms, SmartSensor enables your ecobee thermostat to avoid heating or cooling empty spaces, which can lower runtime and reduce wasted energy. Over time, this targeted control supports more efficient HVAC operation without sacrificing comfort in rooms you use.

• Occupancy-aware adjustments reduce conditioning of empty rooms.
• Wireless communication means sensors can be placed where they’re most useful.
• View temperature and occupancy in the ecobee app to fine-tune behavior.

How does SmartSensor fit with home security features?

When paired with ecobee Smart Security (subscription required), SmartSensor can detect unexpected motion and send real-time alerts to the ecobee app. This adds another layer of awareness to your home monitoring setup without replacing dedicated security hardware.

• Motion alerts when Smart Security is armed (subscription required).
• Real-time notifications in the ecobee app for anomalous activity.
• Works alongside thermostat-focused automation for combined comfort and awareness.

Who is this for: The ecobee SmartSensor 2-Pack suits households that want room-by-room comfort without constant thermostat adjustments — especially families with variable room use like bedrooms, nurseries, or home offices. It’s ideal if you already use an ecobee smart thermostat and want smarter temperature balancing, improved overnight comfort, and optional motion alerts through ecobee Smart Security.
