Guittard Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 227 g — Professional baking cocoa, intense bittersweet flavour

Guittard Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 8 oz is a professional-grade, intensely bittersweet cocoa powder designed for baking, cooking, and chocolate-forward recipes.

Made by Guittard, a heritage chocolate maker, this unsweetened cocoa delivers a concentrated chocolate flavor without added sugar, ideal when you want full control over sweetness and recipe balance. The 8-ounce size is convenient for home bakers and small professional kitchens who want premium cocoa without buying bulk. It performs well in cakes, cookies, sauces, beverages, and pastry applications where a strong cocoa presence is desired.

How does this cocoa powder affect my baking results?

Using Guittard Unsweetened Cocoa Powder gives baked goods a deeper chocolate profile and richer color compared with lower-quality or dutch-processed alternatives. Its intense bittersweet character helps chocolate flavor stand up to other ingredients like nuts, fruit, or espresso. Because it’s unsweetened, you can dial in sweetness precisely for your recipe.

• Adds concentrated chocolate flavor without adding sugar
• Delivers darker, more pronounced color in batters and doughs
• Balances well with strong flavors like coffee, cinnamon, or orange zest

Is this cocoa powder suitable for beverages and savory dishes?

Yes — the unsweetened nature makes it versatile beyond baking. It blends into hot cocoa, smoothies, and mole-style sauces where you want pure cocoa impact. Since it’s not alkalized to be overly mellow, it contributes robust flavor and structure to both sweet and savory recipes.

• Stirs smoothly into hot liquids for bold hot chocolate
• Enhances depth in savory sauces and spice rubs
• Works well in frostings, glazes, and chocolate ganache bases

How should I store Guittard cocoa powder and what is its shelf life?

Store the package in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odors to preserve flavor and aroma. Once opened, keep the cocoa sealed tightly or transfer to an airtight container to prevent moisture and clumping. When stored properly, quality is typically maintained for months; check the pack for manufacturer dates and follow best-practice storage.

• Keep away from heat, humidity, and direct light
• Use an airtight container after opening to prevent clumps
• Label with open date and use within recommended timeframe

What sets Guittard Unsweetened Cocoa apart from other cocoa powders?

Guittard emphasizes chocolate flavor and pastry-grade consistency, which is why pastry chefs favor this cocoa for recipes that need a bold chocolate note. The powder’s processing preserves bittersweet cocoa compounds that give recipes a multi-dimensional chocolate quality. This product is targeted toward bakers who prefer authentic chocolate intensity over milder, alkalized varieties.

• Pastry-quality flavor profile preferred by professionals
• Designed to provide bittersweet, concentrated chocolate notes
• Unsweetened for precise control of recipe sweetness
