Jorgensen Mini Wood Planer No.101 — Compact Hand Plane for Precision Trimming, O1 Steel Blade

JORGENSEN No.101 Mini Wood Planer is a compact, adjustable hand plane built for precision trimming, smoothing and shaping small wood surfaces.

The No.101 mini planer combines workshop-grade materials and a user-friendly design so you can clean up edges, chamfers and tight spots without pulling out larger machinery. It pairs an O1 tool steel blade with a ductile iron body and a zinc-alloy lever cap to deliver consistent results in cabinetry, model making, repairs and fine woodworking. Its small footprint and easy depth adjustment make it a practical tool for both pros and hobbyists who need accurate, controlled cuts on small boards, moldings and craft pieces.

How does the blade perform for fine woodworking tasks?

The blade is crafted from O1 tool steel and arrives finely sharpened for efficient planing of end grain, edges and narrow surfaces. It can be resharpened and reused, so you maintain a crisp cutting edge over time without frequent replacements.

• O1 tool steel for long-lasting sharpness and wear resistance
• Finely honed out of the box for immediate use
• Resharpenable design to extend service life
• Suitable for detail work on soft and hardwoods

What makes the plane durable and well-built?

The body is cast from ductile iron to resist deformation under pressure, and the lever cap uses zinc alloy for secure blade retention. Stainless steel fasteners and components reduce corrosion and keep adjustments functioning smoothly in workshop environments.

• Ductile iron body withstands heavy use and drops
• Zinc-alloy lever cap locks the blade reliably
• Stainless steel parts increase longevity and reliability
• Solid construction maintains alignment and flatness

How easy is it to change and set cutting depth?

Depth is adjusted by a user-friendly knob that lengthens or retracts the blade, so you can switch from fine shavings to deeper passes quickly. The mechanism locks the blade position once set, letting you repeat passes with consistent depth.

• Quick-turn depth knob for fast adjustments
• Locking mechanism secures the blade position
• Incremental control for precise material removal
• Designed for repeatable, consistent passes

What jobs is this mini planer best suited for?

The No.101 excels on small-scale tasks where a full-size plane is awkward: trimming tenons, leveling rabbets, cleaning up glued joints, and refining profile work. It’s also a go-to for hobbyists doing model building, instrument repair, or custom trim fitting in tight spaces.

• Trimming, deburring and polishing small wood pieces
• Fine-tuning joints, edges and moldings
• DIY projects, models, and craft woodworking
• Portable solution for on-site touch-ups and repairs

Who is this for? The JORGENSEN No.101 Mini Wood Planer is ideal for woodworkers who need a compact, reliable tool for detail work: cabinetmakers, restoration specialists, furniture makers, and dedicated hobbyists. Beginners will appreciate the straightforward adjustments and stable feel, while experienced users will value the O1 blade and robust materials for repeatable, precise results. Always handle the plane with care—keep fingers clear of the blade and follow the included instructions for safe blade sharpening and replacement.
