Kwikset Powerbolt 250 Electronic Deadbolt — Matte Black 10-Button Keypad, Keyless Entry & Auto-Lock

The Kwikset Powerbolt 250 is a matte-black electronic deadbolt with a 10-button backlit keypad that delivers keyless entry, customizable user codes and automatic locking for everyday convenience.

Upgrade a standard deadbolt to an electronic lock without professional help: the Powerbolt 250 installs with just a screwdriver and the BILT app’s step-by-step guidance. It pairs a transitional aesthetic with practical features like up to 25 user codes, an auto-lock timer, intrusion alerts, and SmartKey re-keying so you can control access at home quickly and affordably.

How do I set up the Powerbolt 250 and how difficult is installation?

Installation is designed for homeowners with basic tools. The lock replaces most single-cylinder deadbolts and comes with clear BILT 3D instructions; you only need a screwdriver and about 20–30 minutes.

• Fits standard doors—no extra drilling for most setups.
• BILT app provides animated, voice, and text guidance for each step.
• Uses four AA alkaline batteries (not included) with at least 12 months runtime.
• Includes hardware and simple wiring-free mounting plate for quick swap.

What access options and user-code controls does it offer?

The Powerbolt 250 supports flexible, temporary, and permanent access through a 10-button backlit keypad. You can program up to 25 regular user codes, five one-time codes for guests or service providers, and a single programming code to manage entries.

• 25 customizable user codes for household members and frequent users.
• Five one-time codes suitable for deliveries or contractors.
• Programming code lets you add, edit, or delete codes on demand.
• Keypad lights on tap for easy entry in low light conditions.

How does the lock protect against tampering and accidental lockouts?

Security features discourage brute-force attempts and reduce the chance of unauthorized entry while preventing accidental lockouts. After three incorrect keypad attempts, the lock emits an alarm and disables the keypad for one minute to deter tampering.

• Intrusion alert triggers after three wrong code entries and locks out keypad for one minute.
• Auto-lock can be set to 30 seconds, 1, 3, 5 or 10 minutes for automatic secure closure.
• Vacation Mode disables keypad access entirely while you’re away.
• SmartKey Security resists advanced break-in techniques and allows easy re-keying.

What maintenance and everyday conveniences should I expect?

The Powerbolt 250 is low-maintenance and built for daily use: battery life averages at least 12 months under normal usage, and re-keying or changing access codes is straightforward. The backlit pad helps late-night entries, while auto-lock and vacation features simplify routine security.

• Estimated 12‑month battery life using four AA alkaline cells.
• Bright LED keypad lighting for night-time code entry.
• Easy re-key to match existing KW1 keys using SmartKey.
• BILT app support keeps installation and maintenance steps clear.

Who is this for: The Kwikset Powerbolt 250 is ideal for homeowners and renters who want a simple, budget-friendly route to keyless entry without rewiring or professional installation. It fits those who need multiple temporary codes for guests or workers, appreciate automatic locking for convenience, and want a lock they can re-key themselves for flexible security management.
