Ortho Fire Ant Killer 397 g — Ready-to-Sprinkle Granules, Fast-Acting, Treats up to 189 Mounds

Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 is a fast-acting dry granule treatment that destroys active fire ant mounds — including the queen — so you can reclaim your lawn quickly.

Designed for do-it-yourself lawn care, this 14 oz. bottle of Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 delivers a ready-to-sprinkle powder that begins killing fire ants within about an hour. There’s no mixing or watering required: open the container, apply the recommended amount to each mound, and the formula works at the colony’s source. One bottle treats up to 189 mounds, making it a compact but effective option for localized outbreaks across turf, flower beds, and around shrubs and trees.

How quickly will I see results after applying the granules?

The product is formulated to act fast: visible reductions in worker ants typically occur within 60 minutes, while the full colony impact — including elimination of the queen — happens as the treatment reaches the nest. Timing can vary with mound size, temperature and ant activity, so apply when ants are most active for best results.

• Starts killing worker ants in about 60 minutes
• Continued colony control as granules penetrate the mound
• Best applied when ants are actively foraging

How do I apply Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 safely and correctly?

Application is simple and made for homeowners: sprinkle the specified amount of granules directly onto each visible mound according to the label directions. No measuring cups, mixers or post-application watering are necessary; follow the label for amounts per mound and keep children and pets off treated areas until dry.

• Open and sprinkle over individual mounds — no mixing or watering needed
• Follow product label for per-mound amounts and safety precautions
• Keep pets and children away from treated areas until dry

Where is this product appropriate to use around my yard?

Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 is intended for outdoor use on lawns and landscape areas. It can be applied to visible mounds located in turf, around ornamental plants, flower beds, trees, and shrubs. Avoid direct contact with edible plants and follow label restrictions for sensitive areas.

• Use on lawns, around trees, shrubs and flower beds
• Not for use on food crops — adhere to label directions
• Apply to individual mounds rather than broadcast spreading

Will one bottle treat a large infestation or do I need more products?

One 14 oz. bottle treats up to 189 mounds, which covers many small- to medium-sized outbreaks. For larger properties or long-term prevention, pair this targeted mound treatment with Ortho Fire Ant Killer Broadcast Granules (sold separately) as part of a two-step program to reduce new mound formation for months.

• 14 oz. treats up to 189 visible mounds
• Use with Ortho broadcast granules for extended prevention
• Targeted mound treatment plus area prevention gives best control
