Sawyer Permethrin Fabric Insect Repellent Spray — 24 oz Trigger Bottle, Repels Ticks & Mosquitoes up to 6 Weeks

Designed for outdoor enthusiasts, the 24‑ounce trigger spray lets you treat shirts, pants, socks, shoes, sleeping bags, tents, and netting so insects are less likely to land on or bite through treated fabrics. The formula bonds to fibers and remains odorless after drying; it resists loss through sweat or light water exposure and breaks down mainly from UV light or machine agitation. Use it as a fabric layer of protection alongside a separate topical repellent for exposed skin.

How do I apply Sawyer Permethrin to clothing and gear?

Application is simple: hold the trigger bottle about 6–8 inches from the fabric and sweep slowly until the surface is evenly damp. Treat both sides of each garment for roughly 30 seconds and allow items to dry completely before wearing or packing.

• EPA guidance: roughly 4.5 ounces per outfit (shirt, pants, socks).
• Treat shoes and socks thoroughly to reduce tick attachment risk.
• Let treated items dry fully outdoors or in a well‑ventilated area.
• Reapply after six weeks of sun exposure or after six machine washes.

Which fabrics and gear can I safely treat with Sawyer Permethrin?

Sawyer Permethrin is formulated to be safe for most fabrics and outdoor surfaces when used as directed. It won’t stain or harm plastics, finished surfaces, or typical clothing fibers and is suitable for tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, and footwear.

• Clothing: shirts, pants, socks, jackets.
• Camping gear: tents, sleeping bags, netting, tarps.
• Footwear: shoes, boots, gaiters, and socks.
• Accessories: packs and canvas gear—avoid treating items that contact food directly.

How long does protection last and what reduces its effectiveness?

Once bonded to fibers, the treatment persists up to about six weeks or through around six machine wash cycles, whichever comes first. The active ingredient remains resistant to sweat and light water contact; exposure to direct sunlight (UV) and mechanical agitation in washing machines accelerate breakdown.

• Typical longevity: up to 42 days or six washes.
• UV light and frequent washing will shorten effectiveness.
• Normal outdoor use and sweat do not quickly remove the treatment.
• Reapply before long trips or after heavy laundering.

Will Sawyer Permethrin stain or damage my clothing?

The product is formulated to avoid staining and fabric damage when applied according to instructions. After drying, it becomes effectively odorless and should not alter the look or feel of treated items for normal outdoor gear and clothing fibers.

• Nonstaining formulation for most fabrics and finishes.
• Apply in a ventilated area and spot‑test delicate materials if concerned.
• Avoid direct contact with food, and do not treat skin or personal care items.
