The ZOWEETEK CAC Reader USB-C is a compact smart card reader that reads DOD and military Common Access Cards via a USB‑C port for secure logins, email, and government systems.

Designed for service members, contractors and government staff who need reliable smart card access on modern laptops and desktops, this ZOWEETEK USB-C CAC reader supports industry standards and a wide range of government applications. It connects directly to USB‑C/Type‑C ports and works with Windows, macOS and Linux systems. Setup is straightforward for most users; Mac users should note the Java and CAC enabler requirements described below.

How do I connect and start using the ZOWEETEK CAC Reader USB‑C?

Getting started is typically plug‑and‑play on supported systems: insert your CAC, plug the reader into a USB‑C port, and the host OS will detect the device. Windows 10/11 and most Linux distributions recognize the reader automatically, while macOS requires Java and occasionally a CAC enabler utility for full government credential support.

• Plug the reader into a USB‑C/Type‑C port — no drivers needed for most Windows/Linux setups.
• Insert the CAC or PIV card with the chip facing up until it seats securely.
• macOS users: install Java from the official site and add a CAC enabler if required by your agency.
• Works with ActivClient, PureEdge, DKO, AKO and other common government applications.

Which credentials, platforms and applications are supported?

The reader follows PIV, ISO‑7816 and EMV2 standards and is certified to multiple regulatory marks, making it compatible with DOD and US government CAC/PIV cards as well as EMV payment and other smart cards. It has been validated for use with many government portals and secure email systems.

• Supports CAC chip cards, PIV and ISO‑7816 contact smart cards.
• Compatible with Windows 10/11, macOS 10.15+, and many Linux distros.
• Works with ActivClient, Pure Edge Viewer, DKO, AKO, OTW and similar services.
• Certifications: CE, FCC, VCCI and Microsoft WHQL for system compatibility.

What do Mac users need to know before using this CAC reader?

macOS requires Java for some smart card middleware and many agencies require a third‑party CAC Enabler to link the reader to DOD systems. Installing Java first and following your organization’s CAC enabler instructions will ensure the reader functions correctly for secure portal access and email signing.

• Install Java from Oracle’s or OpenJDK’s official site before plugging in the reader on macOS.
• Obtain and install any agency‑approved CAC Enabler or middleware if required by your DOD/USG network.
• Verify macOS version 10.15 or later for best compatibility and security updates.
