Aurora 8-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder AS890C — 125-Sheet Basket, Credit Card & Jam-Resistant

The Aurora AS890C is an 8-sheet cross-cut shredder designed to securely destroy paper, credit cards, staples, and paper clips while offering overload protection and a large 125-sheet collection basket.

Compact but capable, the AS890C balances office-grade security with user-friendly features. It combines cross-cut shredding (for smaller particle output) with practical protections like overload and overheat sensors, plus Auto Start and a Manual Reverse function to clear jams. The unit’s 8.7-inch throat fits standard documents and the included basket stores shredded material until disposal, making it suitable for small offices, home use, or shared workplace spaces.

How secure is the shredding produced by the AS890C?

The AS890C uses a cross-cut mechanism that slices documents into small pieces rather than long strips, increasing the difficulty of reconstructing shredded content. While it doesn’t list an exact security level number, cross-cut shredding is widely accepted for routine confidential paperwork and identity protection.

• Cross-cut blades produce smaller particles than strip-cut models.
• Accepts credit cards, reducing financial data risk.
• Shreds staples and paper clips so documents don’t require pre-sorting.
• 8.7-inch throat accommodates multi-column pages without folding.

How much paper can I shred at once and how is waste handled?

The AS890C supports up to 8 sheets per feed under normal conditions, providing a balance between throughput and blade longevity. Shreds fall into a roomy collection basket rated to hold approximately 125 sheets of shredded material, so you won’t be emptying it after every session.

• Nominal 8-sheet feed capacity for standard 20 lb. paper.
• 125-sheet-capacity basket reduces trip frequency to the bin.
• Transparent or mesh basket design helps you monitor fill level.
• Compact footprint (12 x 7 x 16 inches) fits small workstations.

What safety and jam-prevention features does it include?

The AS890C includes several operational safeguards to protect the motor and reduce downtime. Overload and overheat protection automatically shut down the unit if stressed, and a Manual Reverse helps clear paper jams quickly to restore operation without tools.

• Overload protection prevents motor strain from overfeeding.
• Overheat protection stops the motor to cool down before restarting.
• Auto Start senses paper insertion to begin shredding automatically.
• Manual Reverse clears misfeeds or jams with a simple control.

How easy is the AS890C to use and maintain?

Designed for straightforward operation, the shredder features Auto Start/Stop and a manual reverse switch that make daily use simple even for non-technical users. Basic maintenance is limited to periodic emptying of the basket and occasional blade lubrication for consistent performance.

• Auto Start engages the blades when paper is inserted.
• Manual Reverse clears jams without disassembly.
• Lightweight and compact design allows easy repositioning.
• Simple basket removal and emptying streamlines cleanup.

Who is this for? The Aurora AS890C suits home offices, small businesses, or communal workspaces that need reliable, everyday document destruction without a large commercial footprint. It’s ideal for users who shred a moderate volume of documents, require the ability to destroy credit cards and small metal fasteners, and prefer automatic operation with built-in safety protections. If you need higher continuous-duty performance for heavy institutional use, consider a larger industrial model; for routine secure disposal in smaller settings, the AS890C provides a practical blend of security, convenience, and protective features.
