Kwikset Discus Padlock Boron-Carbide Shackle, 2-3/4" Stainless Shrouded Body, Weather-Resistant

Kwikset Discus Padlock is a weather-tough, high-resistance padlock with a shrouded stainless-steel body and a boron-carbide shackle built to resist cutting and sawing.

Engineered for outdoor and high-abuse settings, this Discus-style padlock combines a polished stainless-steel housing with a fully shrouded shackle and covered keyway for dependable performance against the elements and common tampering methods. The compact 2-3/4" body includes a reinforced bumper to reduce wear from rough handling, and the key-retaining feature helps prevent accidental unsecured use. Backed by Kwikset's Limited Lifetime Warranty, it’s aimed at protecting storage units, roll-up doors, gates, and trailers where durability and theft resistance matter most.

How does the shrouded body improve security?

The fully shrouded body conceals most of the shackle, reducing the exposed metal that bolt cutters and prying tools can grip. This design forces an attacker to work in a tighter space, increasing the time and difficulty of an attack. The polished stainless-steel housing also resists environmental corrosion to keep that protective cover intact.

• Shrouded profile hides shackle sides and limits tool access.
• Polished stainless finish slows rust and preserves structural strength.
• Reinforced bumper protects the housing from impact and abrasion.

What makes the boron-carbide shackle better than standard shackles?

Boron-carbide is a very hard alloy chosen for its exceptional resistance to cutting and sawing compared with common steel shackles. That hardness increases the time required for an aggressor to breach the lock using handheld tools. For storage and outdoor applications where quick cut attacks are a risk, the boron-carbide shackle provides a measurable defensive advantage.

• High material hardness resists cutters and saw blades.
• Maintains shape under force to prevent deformation-based bypasses.
• Integrated into the shrouded housing for combined protection.

How does this padlock hold up in wet or dirty conditions?

The lock is built for exposure: the stainless-steel body resists corrosion and wipes clean easily, while a covered keyway helps keep moisture and debris away from the internal mechanism. These features reduce the chance of freezing, jamming, or accelerated wear in outdoor settings, improving reliability across seasons.

• Polished stainless body sheds water and grime for easier maintenance.
• Covered keyway prevents dirt and moisture ingress into the cylinder.
• Durable finish and reinforced bumper prolong service life in harsh environments.

How does the key-retaining function help everyday use?

The key-retaining design prevents removing the key while the shackle is open, encouraging users to relock rather than leave the padlock unsecured. This small operational safeguard reduces accidental unlocked states and is especially helpful in busy facilities or shared storage spaces.

• Key cannot be removed until the shackle is closed and locked.
• Reduces human error in high-traffic or multi-user environments.
• Simplifies routine checks—no loose keys mean fewer forgotten open locks.

Who this is for: If you need a compact, durable padlock for outdoor storage, unit roll-up doors, gates, or trailers where resistance to cutting and weather matters, the Kwikset Discus Padlock is designed for that purpose. It suits property owners, facility managers, self-storage customers, and contractors who want a low-maintenance lock with enhanced physical defenses and a brand-backed limited lifetime warranty.
