Scotts Turf Builder Starter Fertiliser for New Grass, 6.8 kg — Root-Building Starter for Faster Establishment

Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass is a specially formulated starter fertilizer designed to give newly planted grass the nutrients it needs to develop stronger roots and establish faster.

When starting a lawn from seed, sod, plugs or sprigs, the first few weeks determine long-term success. This 15 lb bag of Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass supplies a balanced nutrient blend created for young turf, helping seedlings build root mass and fill in thicker than unfed grass. It’s safe for all grass types, simple to apply with common spreaders, and formulated to be used immediately before or after planting so your new lawn gets consistent nutrition from day one.

How does this starter fertilizer help new grass establish?

Starter fertilizers are lower in high-nitrogen bursts and higher in nutrients that encourage root development. Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food provides that root-friendly nutritional profile so seedlings can access water and nutrients more effectively as they grow.

• Contains an NPK balance designed for new turf development (24-25-4).
• Promotes thicker growth compared with unfed lawns, helping seedlings fill bare areas.
• Supports earlier root development, improving drought resilience as grass matures.

When and how should I apply it for best results?

Apply this starter fertilizer any time you are planting new grass: seed, sod, sprigs, or plugs. It can be used immediately before or immediately after planting, and works well with both broadcast/rotary and drop spreaders for even coverage.

• Use a Scotts broadcast/rotary spreader at a setting of 3 1/4 for even distribution.
• For Scotts drop spreaders, set the dial to 6 for proper application rate.
• One 15 lb bag covers up to 5,000 sq. ft., matching common yard sizes.
• Keep soil surface moist by watering daily or as needed until seedlings reach about 2 inches tall.

Is this fertilizer safe for my existing lawn or different grass types?

Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass is formulated to be safe for all grass species and is intended specifically for use during planting. It won’t harm most established grasses when applied as directed, but is optimized for young plants that need root-building nutrients.

• Designed for any grass type—cool- or warm-season varieties included.
• Apply only when planting new grass or reseeding for best effect.
• Follow spreader settings and watering instructions to prevent over-application.

What coverage and performance can I expect from one bag?

A single 15 lb bag covers 5,000 square feet, making it economical for average-sized yards and partial renovations. In use, homeowners typically see denser turf and faster visible results compared with unamended seedings, provided watering and planting depth are correct.

• 15 lb bag covers up to 5,000 sq. ft., suitable for medium lawns or sectional projects.
• Applied with recommended spreader settings for uniform nutrient distribution.
• Combining proper seeding technique, watering, and this starter feed yields the best establishment.
