Updated 2 October 2026.
Liquid I.V. is an electrolyte drink mix sold in single-serve sticks that you stir into water. It started as a US brand and is now also sold in UK supermarkets and chemists. So why look further? The UK range is smaller. If you want a particular US flavour, a sugar-free version in more than two flavours, a caffeinated stick or a bigger box, those are harder to find here. This guide explains the differences, what to check on the label and how to use the sticks sensibly.
The UK range and what we stock
Liquid I.V.'s UK website lists its Hydration Multiplier in seven flavours (Lemon Lime, Passion Fruit, Strawberry, Tropical Punch, Raspberry Lemonade, Watermelon Cooler and Blackcurrant Açaí) in boxes of 16 or 24 sticks, plus a Sugar-Free version in White Peach and Mango Pineapple. Our range is mostly the US versions:
| Type | Sugar | Caffeine | Pack sizes we stock | Example flavours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hydration Multiplier | Contains sugar | None | 10, 16, 30 and 48 sticks; 30-serving tub | Lemon Lime, Strawberry, Passion Fruit, Golden Cherry, Concord Grape, Piña Colada, Arctic Raspberry, Guava |
| Hydration Multiplier Sugar-Free | 0 g | None | 14, 16, 30 and 42 sticks | White Peach, Lemon Lime, Raspberry Lemonade, Strawberry Watermelon, Mango Pineapple, Lychee Sorbet, Green Grape |
| Hydration + Energy (including Sugar-Free + Energy) | Varies by version | About 100 mg per stick | 14 sticks | Blackberry Peach, Yuzu Pineapple, Strawberry Kiwi, Fruit Punch |
| Hydration + Immune Support | Contains sugar | None | 14 sticks | Tangerine, Wild Berry Blend, Mango Passionfruit |
"Immune Support" is the product's US name, not a claim we make. The US and UK recipes are not necessarily identical, so read the nutrition panel on the box you receive.
Hydration Multiplier: the original
The standard stick is a powder of sugar, salt, potassium and vitamins that you mix into about 500 ml of water. Popular choices include Lemon Lime (16 sticks), Strawberry (16 sticks) and Passion Fruit (16 sticks), which are also UK flavours, and Golden Cherry (16 sticks), which is not in the UK range. For home use, the Lemon Lime tub (30 servings) lets you measure out a scoop instead of opening a stick each time.
The UK version of this product uses the one health claim that UK rules allow for drinks like it: "carbohydrate-electrolyte solutions enhance the absorption of water during physical exercise". That is a claim about drinking it during exercise. It does not mean it replaces water for everyday drinking.
Sugar-Free: more flavours than the UK range
The Sugar-Free sticks have 0 g of sugar. In the UK shops they come in two flavours; we stock around a dozen, including White Peach (14 sticks), Lemon Lime (14 sticks) and the Sugar-Free variety pack (16 sticks) if you want to try several. Without the sugar, the authorised claim above does not apply, so think of these as a flavoured, salted water rather than a sports drink.
Hydration + Energy: check the caffeine
The +Energy sticks, such as Blackberry Peach (14 sticks), add about 100 mg of caffeine per stick. Made up with 500 ml of water, that is around 20 mg per 100 ml, which puts it in the same group as energy drinks under UK labelling rules: drinks with more than 150 mg of caffeine per litre must say they are not recommended for children or for pregnant or breast-feeding women. The NHS advises no more than 200 mg of caffeine a day in pregnancy. Count these sticks alongside your coffee and tea.
Using Liquid I.V. sensibly
- One stick a day is the UK limit. The UK pack directions say: add one stick to 500 ml of water and do not exceed one stick per day. We suggest following the same rule with the US versions.
- Mind the salt. Each stick contains sodium. The NHS says adults should have no more than 6 g of salt a day. If you are on a low-salt diet or take blood pressure medicine, check with your GP or pharmacist first.
- It is not a medicine. If you are dehydrated because of sickness or diarrhoea, the NHS advice is to drink fluids in small sips, and a pharmacist can recommend oral rehydration solutions. Those are medicines designed for illness. Liquid I.V. is a food drink mix.
- Children. The caffeinated sticks are not suitable for children. For the others, check the pack and ask a pharmacist if in doubt.
How we chose what to stock
We focused on what UK shoppers cannot easily find on the high street: flavours outside the UK range, the wider Sugar-Free line, the +Energy sticks and larger boxes. We list stick sizes and counts plainly; US boxes may also print ounces.
UK alternatives
If you just need electrolytes today, the UK Liquid I.V. range is on sale in UK supermarkets and chemists, and UK sports brands sell electrolyte tablets and powders. For illness, an oral rehydration sachet from a pharmacy is the better choice. If you want the US flavours or formats, browse our Liquid I.V. collection, and see more brands that are hard to find in UK shops on our Hard-to-Find Brands in the UK page.
